When is the best time to go birding in Sinharaja?

Rain falls in every month, but some seasons are easier than others. Here is how the birding year works.

Sinharaja is a true rainforest, so expect rain at any time of year. Even so, the seasons shape the birding.

December to April

Generally the driest and most popular period, with active flocks and migrants from the north present.

May to September

The south-west monsoon brings heavier rain. Birding continues between showers, and the forest is at its lushest and quietest.

October and November

Inter-monsoon months with afternoon storms and the arrival of migrants.

Whatever the month, early mornings are the most productive. Tell us your dates and we will advise on what to expect.
